Privacy policy

Dear Self is a private journaling app. It is built local-first: your pages are written and kept on your own device. This policy explains the little data that does leave it, and why.

The short version

What we collect

If you use Dear Self without an account: nothing leaves your device. Your pages, reminders, and settings are stored locally.

If you create an account (optional): to sign you in and let you return to your space, we collect:

Authentication is handled by Supabase, Inc. on our behalf. Your account record holds only the items above.

What we do NOT collect

Notifications

Reminders you set are scheduled locally on your device. They are not sent from, or tracked by, any server.

App updates

The app checks our update service (Expo) for new versions. This exchange includes only technical details needed to deliver the right update (app version, platform) — never your personal data or your pages.

Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes. We use Supabase solely to operate the account sign-in described above.

Keeping your data

Your pages live on your device for as long as you keep the app installed. Your account data is kept until you delete your account.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account at any time:

Deleting your account permanently removes your email and name from our records. Pages stored on your device are removed when you delete them or uninstall the app.

Children

Dear Self is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for material changes, note it in the app.
